Confessions of a Teenage Novelist Wannabe

  • Jan. 18th, 2009 at 4:31 PM

Alright, so the title isn't quite as catchy as the Disney movie - whose theme song is now officially stuck in my head (thank you, Lindsey Lohan) - but it's good enough for me, and that's all that really counts, right? Sure, Cassi. Sure.

Anyhoo, all of the buzz about books this past year (Brisingr, Inkdeath, and Breaking Dawn releases come to mind) has gotten me hyped about finishing my own novel(s). I've been writing miscellaneous things (mostly horrifically bad fanfiction) for the past four years, and it's time to set my mind down and give it a firm "shut up and write!" My official New Year's Resolution is to finish something this year... and this blog will be the brainchild of my journey to published-dom - and the host to many long nights of writer's block.

If you don't me - which, not gonna lie, you probably don't, unless you know me non-virtually - here are some facts about my writing:

-My current project is temporarily entitled "Plague," and it's the story of a teenager named Ingrid who becomes a god after dying in a car crash (The full summary is much, much longer than a bullet point, but let's just say it involves a covered-up coup, Prometheus, and, of course, the Black Plague)
-The very sorry word count for said project is 3,354: 721 for the prologue and 2,680 for the ongoing first chapter
-My goal is 75,000 words by December 31, 2009
-I try to write at least 250 words per day (and, if you do the math, you'll know that only worked out consistently for about a week)

Cheers!
-Cassi
